"Why live at the beach if you can't go out and play?"--Nick Worther
My mystery novels are set along California's beautiful Central Coast near Monterey Bay and the city of Santa Cruz and in the teeming cities of the San Francisco Peninsula, just a short drive away over the coastal mountains. Is this a cool place to write? You bet it is!

INTRODUCING
NICK AND SARAH
Nick and Sarah Worther are a retired school teacher and Registered Nurse who, becoming increasing frustrated by their fast-paced and ever-more demanding professional lives in the busy cities of the San Francisco Peninsula, took the earliest possible retirement and moved to the seacoast seeking a calmer lifestyle. While still suffering some occasional regret at having left the fray, they still believe their retirement decision to have been a sanity-affirming choice, well and good to all appearances, but leaving them both predisposed to jump in and help when friends are in trouble or family threatened.
Their immediate neighborhood includes a popular public beach, Seacliff State Park, and the Redwood-shaded canyons and steep forested slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains, while the general locale ranges along Monterey Bay's spectacular shoreline, including the funky coastal City of Santa Cruz, the historic City of Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel, and other neighboring communities, all vacation and recreational destinations known worldwide.
They're a normal couple who've raised their children, cared for their aging parents, and paid their dues and now wish only to enjoy the good life they've earned, but who says life plays fair or cuts anyone slack?
FAIR WARNING, GENTLE READER!!.
Should you demand tales of impressive depth and inspiring philosophy, don't waste your valuable time. Writing's a pleasure--that's spelled F-U-N--so, please, read my novels in the same spirit, because they're intended as simple entertainments--nothing more or less. Some readers call them page-turners, and others say they feature colorful characters and are full of local flavor. As for me, I like to think of my work as lite beach reading.
Meet Trucker Deal
Trucker Deal is a fledgling private investigator operating in the fast-paced environment of upscale, politically-correct Palo Alto, California, the tech-obsessed Silicon Valley, and the incredibly-competitive and increasingly-overcrowded cities along the San Francisco Peninsula and around the greater Bay Area. Life's all uphill for a guy like Truck, a man who's already burned out once, and whom female friends describe as a trouble-magnet.
If Deal didn't have friends, he'd be in sorry shape, but fortunately, he's got K. H. Lockwood, Attorney at Law, a former lover and sometimes helper on his side, as well as Sheriff's Sergeant Don MacCleen, an ex-partner who owes him big-time, and Jason Harrison, pal, occasional mentor, and owner of a pool-cleaning service. Deal helps Jason maintain swimming pools when the P.I. biz is slow, and they both agree you never know what you might see in someone's back patio.
Turn a trouble-magnet loose, and anything can happen!
